Where is the Summer Camp held?

The location for the Summer Camp 2016 will be Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts.

How long is the Summer Camp?

The Summer Camp is 12 days long. Students arrive on the afternoon of Sunday, June 26 by 6pm and check into dorms before having dinner together. The program officially begins on Monday, June 27 and concludes on Friday, July 8.

How much does the Summer Camp cost?

The Summer Camp 2016 price is $2,150.00 and includes housing, meals, field trips, and tuition.

Will I have a roommate at the Summer Camp?

Yes, you will be housed with at least one fellow Summer Camp student. The rooms and suites will be divided by gender.

What is free time used for?

During this time you will have the opportunity to explore a variety of activities around campus and enjoy a field trip.

What should you bring to camp?

  • Clothes for two weeks, including socks and underwear, T-shirts, shorts, jeans, and comfortable shoes for activities
  • Alarm clock
  • Toiletries, shower shoes
  • Camera (optional)
  • Wireless laptop with United States–compatible power adapter
  • Cell phone and charger
  • Notebook, pens/pencils, folder
  • Sunblock

  • Spending money for souvenirs, coin-operated laundry and detergent, vending machine snacks, etc.

Do students need to have computers?

Every student at the Summer Camp needs to bring a reliable, wireless-enabled laptop that meets the requirements for running Mathematica. Windows, Macintosh, and Linux are all acceptable. International students must bring a US-compatible power supply for their laptops. Mathematica will be provided.

What happens at the Summer Camp?

It's a mixture of lectures, individual interactions with instructors, and homework. Each student is expected to do a small project in Mathematica, like creating a multi-step program involving several functions. Students will have the opportunity to publish Demonstrations of their work in the Wolfram Demonstrations Project. Check out what previous students did here!

What time does the Summer Camp end on Friday?

The program ends at 1pm on Friday, July 8. Parents and guardians who are driving students home may arrive between 1:15–2pm to pick up their students. Students flying out of Boston Logan International Airport will be able to ride our free shuttle bus to the airport. In order to ensure enough time to get through security, flights should be scheduled for 3:15pm or later.

Does the Summer Camp accept international students?

Yes.

How many students participate in the entire program?

We are expecting approximately 30 participants in 2016.

Who chaperones the Summer Camp?

A team of Wolfram Education experts will be running the Summer Camp. This team will include instructors, teaching assistants, and residence assistants.

What if there is a medical emergency while at camp?

In case of a medical problem or other emergency, we will notify the parents or guardians immediately, while at the same time prompt medical attention will be administered as required.

Is financial assistance available?

Assistance may be available for students with financial need. Students may apply for financial assistance after acceptance into our program.

What travel arrangements are needed to get to the Summer Camp?

The majority of students fly into Boston Logan International Airport. We will have staff at the airport to make sure students board our free shuttle bus from the airport to Bentley University. Students may also be driven directly to the campus by their parents. In some cases, students have used a train or bus to get to the airport and take our shuttle to campus. We work with each individual student and their parents to ensure they arrive and are accounted for on check-in day. Parents will receive cell phone numbers for the Summer Camp staff to confirm their student's arrival.
