Bio

As an avid language fan, Daniel enjoys linguistics, learning foreign languages and scripts, as well as computer programming related to natural language processing and how machines perceive human language. Other than native English and Mandarin Chinese, Daniel has studied Spanish at school, learned proficient Japanese, conversed in basic Norwegian, and picked up how to read Arabic. In pursuing his linguistics interests, Daniel has conducted a comparative study analyzing the similarities and differences between Japanese and Wu Chinese phonology, and has qualified to the Invitational Round of the North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad. Besides his passion for language, Daniel enjoys math (AIME) and participates in public forum debate at school, having competed in many forensics tournaments at school. In his free time, he enjoys playing the piano, board games like chess and shogi, cards, and social deduction games like Werewolf.
