Admissions

Applicants should be motivated, independent and enthusiastic learners with a background in any STEM subject. Our application process favors important skills, such as problem solving, creative thinking, critical thinking and logic over the ability to code, and we look for students who are mature enough to engage fully with our intense academic program.

The application process

The application period begins in December. The first step is to fill out the application form, which goes live at the start of the application period. Along with essential information, students expand on their previous experiences and projects and have the opportunity to analyze alumni projects and explore project ideas. Students will also complete a short coding challenge demonstrating their thought process.

The final part of the application is a video interview with our Admissions Director, where students expand on their coding challenge answers and their written application.

The Wolfram Summer Research Program admits approximately 60 students each year. We accept international students. All students must be under 18 at the end of the program. The admissions team does not discriminate on the basis of gender, gender identity, race, color, religion, sexual orientation or disability.

Scholarships

As we are committed to enabling ambitious students, regardless of background or resources, needs-based scholarships are available for students with demonstrable financial need.

Our application process is need-blind, and students' ability to pay tuition is not factored into our admissions decisions. Students who require financial aid are encouraged to apply.

Pre-program Workshop

The workshop is an intensive, two-day virtual program designed to prepare students for the Wolfram Summer Research Program. Designed specifically for younger or less experienced students to gain confidence and Wolfram Language skills, the workshop is a great opportunity to prepare for the program. Through activities led by Wolfram instructors, students work through An Elementary Introduction to the Wolfram Language in a fun, dynamic context.

The workshop combines hands-on training led by Wolfram instructors, peer collaboration and individual exploration in an interactive and engaging environment. We focus on ensuring that all students are prepared for the rigor of the Wolfram Summer Research Program.

Motivated students who feel that they need extra support to be ready for the Wolfram Summer Research Program and who want to put in the work to quickly develop proficiency in Wolfram Language should indicate on their application that they wish to attend the pre-program workshop. Students who have studied computer science or are confident in a different programming language would not benefit from the pre-program workshop.
