Bio

Wei is a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Southern Methodist University (SMU). He earned his PhD from Brown University and worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at MIT and Caltech. His research is in the area of solid mechanics and materials engineering with a focus on combined constitutive modeling, experimental characterization, numerical simulation of mechanical behaviors, residual stress/strain, and microstructural evolution of engineering materials and biological materials. He is interested in anisotropic plasticity and polycrystalline plasticity, mechanical testing of thin sheets and foils via digital image correlation, and nonlinear finite element analysis of metal forming and laser material processing.
