I live in Olomouc, which is a wonderful town in the Czech Republic. I am studying my fourth year of molecular biophysics at Palacký University in Olomouc. My main field is DNA and drugs based on heavy metals, but I am also interested in mathematics, IT, and chemistry. My hobbies are traveling, reading, and dancing, especially ballroom and Latin.

Algorithm for analyzing intensity of bands
Gel electrophoresis is a routine method for separating and analyzing macromolecules. It is a cheap and fast method to obtain specific information about a compound. From this information, we can obtain data about structure or reaction kinetics. Gel electrophoresis is also used for separating fragments or macromolecules based on their length.
This experiment was designed for obtaining general parameters of a compound based on platinum in an oxidative state of II. Because of the bond of the compound to the DNA, there are different fractions with different sizes in space. Those fractions are separated by gel electrophoresis, and after coloring we can see bands there. There is a dependence between the intensity of those bands and the amount of the compound bonded to the DNA.
My goal is to use Mathematica to write a program to obtain information about intensity bands from electrophoretic gels using built-in functions for image processing.
