Trang is a junior double majoring in Mathematics and Geology at the University of Tulsa. She is getting her BS in Geology and MSc in Mathematics this coming December. Her main research interests are Mathematical Biology, Numerical Analysis, and Numerical Optimization.

Project: Formation of Clustering Networks around Percolation Threshold

The general objectives of this project are to build a percolation theory model and, from that, study the properties of the underlying structure of a random percolating network by extracting a graph from a raster of clusters (random connected cells). We will also try to determine percolation threshold (approximated on a finite lattice.)

This model is highly likely to be generalized into various phenomena in nature, such as speleothems (cave formations), fractures created from brittle deformation, rock porosity/permeability appearance, and stream patterns, etc. Moreover, percolation theory is closely related to fractal patterns observed everywhere in nature.
