Bio

Arnau Gavaldà (Tarragona, 1984) has a BS in computer science and holds a MS in computer science engineering and security at Universitat Rovira i Virgili and a MS in artificial intelligence at Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, and Universitat de Barcelona. He is currently starting a PhD in Physics and Chemistry at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili.

His research interests are broad, currently including evolutionary dynamics in complex networks and its applications, emergent dynamical systems (especially in synthetic biology and nanotechnology), and mathematical modeling.

He does external consulting for several private companies and public administrations such as uolala.com, Casas & Casas lawyers, and Vall d’Hebron Hospital. He is a member of the Spanish Red Cross and has participated in several international cooperation projects sponsored by multiple NGOs. He does judo and enjoys jogging, listening to music, and traveling.

Project: iTalk

The aim of this project is to describe time series automatically in the English language.

  • Input any graph and get its description in natural language
  • Method: Time series leads to feature extraction leads to description in natural language

Conclusions

  • First working prototype
  • Description of the more relevant features
  • User personalization of the level of verbosity
  • Returns text or speaks it
  • Tested with name data and financial data

Project: Evolutionary Dynamics in Complex Networks

The aim of this project is to do a preliminary study on how does the connection of the elements affect global behavior. To investigate this phenomena, we use two “simple” systems: cellular automata and complex networks.
