Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS WOLFRAM RESEARCH?
Wolfram Research, led by Founder and CEO Stephen Wolfram, is one of the world's most respected computer, web and cloud software companies—as well as a powerhouse of scientific and technical innovation. As a pioneer in computation and computational knowledge, we have pursued a long-term vision to develop the science, technology and tools to make computation an ever-more-potent force in today's and tomorrow's world.
Wolfram Language, the only full-scale computational language, offers high-level representation for all computational ideas for people and AIs. With Wolfram, you can connect LLMs and other AI systems to powerful, accurate and current computation and knowledge.
WHEN AND WHERE IS THE WOLFRAM MIDDLE SCHOOL SUMMER CAMP HELD?
The Wolfram Middle School Summer Camp takes place entirely online on Sunday, July 27 (12pm to 2:30pm Pacific Time), and July 28–August 1 (8am to 3pm Pacific Time). Students can attend from around the world.
WHO CAN ATTEND THE MIDDLE SCHOOL SUMMER CAMP?
Girls (including young people who identify as girls, gender–nonconforming individuals and students who were assigned female at birth) who are 11 to 14 years of age. Students should have an interest and background in a STEM subject, but computer science and coding skills are not required.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND THE WOLFRAM HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAM INSTEAD?
Students in high school are encouraged to attend the Wolfram High School Summer Research Program. If you are interested in joining the High School Summer Research Program but are younger than 14, you are encouraged to attend the Middle School Summer Camp and apply to the High School Summer Research Program in a future year.
Students who are 14 years old and apply for the Wolfram Middle School Summer Camp will be automatically assessed for both programs and may be offered a place in the High School Summer Research Program instead. Those offered a place in both programs are not able to complete both in the same year and must choose which program to attend.
WHO LEADS THE MIDDLE SCHOOL SUMMER CAMP?
A team of Wolfram Education experts will be running the Middle School Summer Camp. This team will include alumni from the Wolfram High School Summer Research Program and Wolfram Emerging Leaders Program who have proven their excellent Wolfram Language abilities.
HOW MUCH DOES THE PROGRAM COST, AND WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION POLICY?
Tuition for the Middle School Summer Camp is $500, which includes one week of full-time instruction as well as access to Wolfram technologies. A non-refundable $200 deposit is due within 10 days of acceptance. The full registration fee is due July 1.
We offer needs-based financial aid on a sliding scale, which can cover up to 100% of tuition.
You can cancel your registration before July 1 for a refund of program fees except the deposit. Cancellations after July 1 cannot be refunded.
WHAT OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE AFTER COMPLETING THE MIDDLE SCHOOL SUMMER CAMP?
On completion of the Middle School Summer Camp, successful students are invited to continue their academic journeys with us in a variety of ways. The Wolfram High School Summer Research Program allows students to go in depth on a particular topic and hone their coding skills. After that, the Wolfram Emerging Leaders Program is an opportunity for students to engage more deeply in a longer-term research project while supported by expert mentors. Highly successful students join our teacher training program as part of the Wolfram Emerging Leaders Program and go on to teach and mentor at the Wolfram Middle School Summer Camp or at the Wolfram High School Summer Research Program.
DO STUDENTS INTERACT WITH STEPHEN WOLFRAM?
Students meet Stephen Wolfram for small-group Q&A sessions on topics such as entrepreneurship, invention, research and the future of the world.
HOW CAN PARENTS FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE PROGRAM?
Once students are admitted, parents will be invited to attend a Parent Information Session in May.
