Gabriel is currently pursuing a master's degree in music at NYU with a focus on algorithmic composition and music technology. He holds a bachelor of science degree in information and communication technologies with an emphasis on computer science from Tecnológico de Monterrey and has worked as a software developer and IT consultant for a variety of organizations. He is the creator of Scripthica—a programming environment that has been used to teach algorithmic composition at the National Center for the Arts in Mexico. Throughout his experience, he has used a variety of programming languages, but his favorite so far is the Shakespeare programming language.

Project: Interactive Music Creation with Cellular Automata
Algorithmic composition is the science and art of using algorithms to create music. Cellular automata have become a useful and popular resource for computer music composition. With this project, I'll explore an approach in using cellular automata interactively for music creation. The idea is to provide an interactive interface that will have effects on some of the elements in music. Thus, the modifications performed on a given CA will have a direct effect on the notes it plays. I explore using cellular automata for granular synthesis and the evolution of cellular automata with real-time interactive synthesis.
