Christopher Grant

Class of 2011

Chris studies statistics at West Virginia University and is particularly interested in data mining/machine learning methods. He became interested in A New Kind of Science early in his academic career and hopes to find some relevance in his work. Experimental computer science has revolutionized statistics, so developing an intuition about simple programs seems to be necessary for future development.

Project: Experimental Investigation of Complexity in Tag Systems

Complexity occurs in tag systems when the rule space includes at least two colors and a larger number of possible replacements exceeds the number of deleted objects. Many of the properties of Polya urn experiments can be investigated in a comparable tag system.
