Bio

Srabasti is a visiting research scholar of the State University of New York at Stony Brook and is currently doing research on the scramjet, a Mach 7 hypersonic plane. She is fascinated with anything related to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and has been involved in doing research on fluid instabilities, supernova, and other multiphysics and multiscale problems. Her other interests include spreading math and science education. That is why she is the director of the mathematics curriculum and research of EINSTEM, a non-profit STEM-initiative group in NJ; she is also the public information officer of The Mathematical Association of America–New Jersey and the co-director of the Garden State Undergraduate Mathematics Conference (GSUMC). Srabasti has been involved in organizing various workshops and contributing to research paper sessions. She has published many papers and, though she hates talking in public, has given quite a few presentations and talks. Her other interests include photography, art, traveling, reading, writing, blogging, and learning about other countries and cultures.

Project: Mimicking of the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky Equation Using Cellular Automata

The project will try to model the KS equation using cellular automata and, in the process, will try to find the assumptions that are used in solving the equation in cellular automata. The solutions will give ideas about what goes into deriving the KS equation. The project will also help in coming up with simple models for combustion in cellular automata.
